UMB.FYI Celebrates it's 100th Issue

3 min read

This week marks a special milestone for me as UMB.FYI, my Umbraco news aggregating newsletter side project, hits its 100th issue 🎉

What started as a response to the collapse of social media making it difficult to stay up to date with everything going on in the Umbraco space has grown into a weekly rhythm that’s become part of the community’s heartbeat — and now reaches over 700 subscribers each week..

The Numbers

Across these 100 issues we’ve featured 2,128 items 🎉 That’s a lot of Umbraco goodness! Here’s how it all breaks down — showing just how creative, active, and generous this community is:

  • 127 posts from HQ — keeping us up to date with all the official news
  • 528 community blog posts — proof that Umbraco devs love to share what they know
  • 150 videos & podcast episodes — so much to watch and listen to!
  • 429 events & festivals — because Umbraco people love to get together
  • 350 package releases — the ecosystem just keeps on giving
  • 84 training courses — plenty of opportunities to skill up
  • 366 social posts — the quick hits and conversations that spark ideas
  • 94 miscellaneous gems — the oddballs that didn’t fit elsewhere but were too good not to miss

Looking at that list, what stands out most is the variety — from official announcements to community projects, from deep-dive tutorials to quick conversations. It really shows just how alive and thriving the Umbraco ecosystem is ❤️

Evolution

UMB.FYI hasn’t stood still during this time though and over the past 100 weeks, I’ve rolled out improvements such as:

More has been going on behind the scenes too where I’ve also made a number of tweaks to our automation infrastructure, implemented an AI backed content scoring system to help block spammy content and did a big optimization refactor saving over 5gb of annual email storage.

Community

One of the best parts for me has been seeing the ripple effect that UMB.FYI has (no matter how small). A few of you have shared screenshots showing spikes in web traffic when your posts are featured, which always brings a smile to my face to see 😁.

Owain Jones - I just wanted to say a massive thank you for including my blog post in yesterday’s umb.fyi newsletter!

I’ve also heard from community meetup organizers who use UMB.FYI as a quick way to catch up on what’s been happening lately — and then share those highlights with their attendees. Knowing the newsletter helps fuel real-life conversations and events is honestly so rewarding.

And as mentioned up top, the subscriber base keeps growing too — from ~640 to 700+ after a recent LinkedIn drive 🎉. Each new subscriber means more eyes on the brilliant work you’re all putting out.

Future

I’m excited to keep pushing things forward and right now I’m working on a workflow engine that will automate even more of the process. With UMB.FYI’s automation backbone, it’s already possible for one person to capture everything that’s going on. But the process of creating the actual newsletter is still pretty manual, so I’m hoping the custom workflow engine will make this even quicker.

I’ve also toyed with the idea of an UMB.FYI dashboard for folks to use as their browser homepage pulling out all the must see data for that day. The response to the idea was pretty positive on social media so I’m hoping to find the time to be able to create an initial proof of concept.

It’s early days, but I’d love to see this become a handy starting point for anyone in the Umbraco community to keep their finger on the pulse.

Thank You

Most importantly — thank you. For reading, for sharing your work, and for being part of a community that makes publishing UMB.FYI every week worth it.

If you’ve got ideas, stories, or feedback for what UMB.FYI could do in the next 100 issues — I’d love to hear from you.
