UMB.FYI Gets an iOS Tip Shortcut

It’s no secret that UMB.FYI is built around community. The whole point is to surface and share the best Umbraco-related content being posted across the web — and a big part of that is helping the community help me find the good stuff.

The main way we have for community members to submit suggestions is our tipping mechanism which offers a range of platform integrations to give the community friction-free ways to submit content quickly and easily. To date, we have integrations for Mastodon, Bluesky, Discord, a Chrome extension, and even a dedicated tips email address — all designed to meet people where they already are.

And now, I’m adding another: an iOS Shortcut.

What it is

If you browse Umbraco content on your phone (LinkedIn, a blog post in Safari, etc), this Shortcut lets you share a link directly to UMB.FYI as a tip — straight from the iOS share menu.

So if you see something great and think “the community should see this,” all you have to do is:

  • Tap the Share button
  • Choose “UMB.FYI Tip”
  • Done

Behind the scenes, it sends the link to my tip-processing system, ready to be reviewed and (hopefully) featured.

How to get it

You can install the Shortcut with just a couple taps:

Once installed, it’ll show up in your iPhone’s share menu.

NB: The Shortcut only works with shareable links (i.e. blog posts, LinkedIn posts, etc). If you’re not seeing it in the share menu, scroll to the bottom and tap “Edit Actions” to enable it.

What about privacy and security?

The Shortcut doesn’t collect any personal data — just the shared URL. No authentication, no account needed. And you can always inspect the Shortcut before you install it, since Shortcuts are fully transparent.

Why this matters

This is a small feature, but it helps move UMB.FYI closer to what I always wanted it to be — a community-curated stream of good Umbraco content. The more ways there are to surface things, the better.
