UMB.FYI links get Urchin Tracking Module (UTM) parameters
less than a minute read
In a recent conversation with an Umbraco community member on Mastodon, they asked if it would be possible if we could add Urchin Tracking Module (UTM) parameters to the links in UMB.FYI newsletters.
Whilst we take privacy seriously with our newsletters, I think this is a nice suggestion as really, it’s not for the benefit of UMB.FYI, rather it’s for the authors themselves so they can easily account for where their web traffic is coming from.
UTM Parameters
With that in mind, we’ve updated all the links within our newsletters now with the following UTM parameters.
Parameter | Value | Description |
---|---|---|
utm_source | umbfyi | Always set to umbfyi as the source of the traffic. |
utm_medium | email or web | If the traffic originates from the email newsletter, then the value will be email . Traffic from the online archive will have a value of web |
The important thing for newsletter subscribers to know is that no identifiable data will ever be forwarded onto authors sites.
Wrapping Up
Whilst a relatively simple change, we hope this helps authors to get a little more insight into where their traffic is coming from, and we hope it will help highlight the value of the UMB.FYI newsletter service.
Until next time 👋
